ONLY MOTHER NATURE KNOWS
By,
Kathleene S. Baker
A very rare enchanting bond
Of the timid and the shy.
And only Mother Nature knows
All the reasons why.
Had they survived an avalanche
That swept loved ones away?
Filled with fear and all alone,
Their lives in disarray,
Waking to a calmer day,
Did they startle one another?
Yet make a pact of friendship,
In the midst of wicked weather.

They really aren’t so different.
Both sport furry coats of brown.
Eyes as black as midnight skies,
And tall ears to hear each sound.
Size made not a difference,
‘Cause even wild ones need a pal.
To share long days and longer nights,
When winters cold winds howl.

Springtime grass of verdant green
Found them grazing with delight.
Two fast friends that always kept
The other one in sight.

Side by side come rain or shine,
In a wilderness they call home.
One quite small, one quite tall,
They live and love and roam.

A peculiar couple some might say,
With a bond that will not die.
And only Mother Nature knows
All the reasons why…
