LOOKING, ALWAYS LOOKING By, Kathleene S. Baker
He was looking, always looking,
To the house across the way.
Yearning for a human’s touch,
Instead, he was pushed away.
Tethered by a chain ‘round his neck,
Yet with every move he made,
Levi, the cocker spaniel
Had hope that would not fade.

Ten long years the chain clanged.
The area he paced was small.
No green grass within his reach,
Nor a toy, a bone, or ball.

His home a shoddy doghouse,
True love he’d never known.
Still his eyes were hopeful;
In them his spirit shone.
Now Levi’s chain’s been cast aside,
And he’s in an angels care.
He naps upon a fluffy couch,
Never again to know despair.

Levi’s days of looking,
And bondage are his past.
Free... he thrives in a devoted home,
With a love that’s unsurpassed.
